We believe…

  • We believe emotion has traditionally been overlooked.
  • We believe that showing emotion is not a weakness
  • We believe emotion makes us human
  • We believe there is a reason for emotion
  • We believe that one can manage their emotion
  • We believe emotion should accompany logic
  • We believe in the importance of emotional intelligence
  • We believe in the imperfect complexity and dynamic nature of emotion
  • We believe emotion is a particular pattern of physiological activity, and 
  • We believe emotion is culturally constructed
  • We believe emotion is political
  • We believe emotion creates radical change

We want…

  • We want technology to enhance human emotion
  • We want technology to respond intelligently to human emotion
  • We want to blur and question the line between technology and humans 
  • We want emotional health to be prioritized
  • We want to use technology to inform and encourage emotional reflection
  • We want people to be emotionally intelligent
  • We want technology to assist in managing and expressing emotions for the betterment of one’s self without causing harm to others
  • We want people to be more emotionally expressive and empathetic 
  • We want people to emotionally connect with one another across diverse backgrounds 
  • We want to challenge gendered notions of emotion
  • We want to challenge racialized notions of emotion
  • We want to cultivate empathy
  • We want to artistically express the diverse range of emotion using technology and all human senses
  • We want to use technology and emotion to build community

We know this to be true…

  • We know that emotion is difficult to define
  • We know that emotion is affected by environment   
  • We know that emotion is felt differently by people, even if it is the same emotion
  • We know that emotion involves both body and mind
  • We know that suppression of emotion is unhealthy
  • We know that how we deal with emotion is culturally and socially learned
  • We know that emotion is internally felt in conjunction with other emotions
  • We know that emotion is contagious
  • We know that emotion impacts how we perceive one another
  • We know that emotion is experienced and felt in a way that can not be fully described
  • We know that emotion and rational thought are innately intertwined
  • We know that emotion can be reevaluated and transformed
  • We know that emotion is a way of knowing
  • We know that technology can not solve everything
